Default Serpentine Belt Install Help

Hey guys,

Im new to posting here but spend a good time browsing different topics for a while now as a guest. Im a regular at silveradoss.com, but am not getting much help right now over there.

The pulley on my belt tensioner snapped. Basically the lip on the pulley broke off (ill post pics in a little) and the belt went right with it . I need help on the belt install. Ive tried almost everything but have had no luck. I know it should be easy but for some reason a first time belt installer like myself is struggling at best.

I have a 2003 Silverado SS with a Radix (3.0 pulley) Im using a gatorback belt P/N 4061115 (111.5"). I cant get the belt to fit for the life of me.

Ive pulled the tensioner off but I cant seem to get it back on with the belt wrapped around the pulley because of that little nub in the back

Any pointers or maybe a how to would be great.

Thanks Again!!!

The first step is to wrap the whole belt around the water pump pulley with the ends extending down between the crank pullley and power steering pump pulley. Then open up the belt to wrap it around the other pullies as per the Magnuson routing diagram. I leave the blower pulley for last, just pull the tensioner over and slip it on.

edit: oops, I see you added some info since I first read this..........
The tensioner must be in place prior to installing the belt. Just use a socket and long bar/breaker bar on the tensioner pulley nut to pull it over and slip the belt on the last pulley(blower). I carry a belt tensioner tool and spare belt with me.

Dr. X thanks!

I guess i was a moron trying to use a 12" socket to do the job. Finally just bought a piece of 3/4" x 18" gavanized metal pipe to use as a breaker bar. Even with the tensioner gully compressed I had a hard time getting that 111.5" belt on.

Although Zippy recommends a 111.5" belt on a 3.0 pulley, I'd strongly suggest using a 112.0 since my 111.5" barely and I mean I had to use a damn screw driver to get it over the radix pulley.

Pics of the pulley destruction on the tensioner soon to come.

Do you have the updated version with the adjustable idler pulley? That might take some of the excess tension off the belt.
