I realize, but a really safe baseline is a nice thing for a starting point. I fundamentally understand how to tune, but have way more reading to do before I adjust things. It is hard to absorb all of the reading without the actual tuner. My timing for learning is definitely much shorter than my "need" to upgrade.

I would have bought the tuning software earlier, but have been a bit delayed working on getting a Windows 8 machine with a 10" monitor in the dash.

The SCT file will do you no good without a device to put it in. Just like you can't put an HPT format in EFI Live and Vice Versa. The coding is unique to each software company and there cable. So unless they can give you a file in a format for whatever software you purchase, it's basically useless.

Justin doesn't lock his tunes as he has nothing to hide. Although there have been some copy and paste tuners trying to rip off his work. But It's not a live Teamviewer session either as you can't expect people to be at your beckon call day or night. Normally, with any mail order company, You receive a base file, you drive around and log it. You send the log to the tuner and they make some adjustments to dial things in. They do this as many times as it takes to get things dialed in. They will also makes adjustments based on feedback from you.

Thanks. To clarify I never expected beck and call, but didn't realize that one could guess at a base tune and then just log for changes. I sent some emails/PM's to vendors here. I appreciate all the help.

I have the Edelbrock E-Force in my Avalanche, it came with the SCT handheld which is of no use to me at this point. The canned tune retains 105MPH limit as well as a few other very annoying things so it was retuned one week after purchase 2 years ago. The retune was done by the shop in San Jose who did the install. It didn't seem to run any better after the custom dynotune but it did make bigger numbers on the dyno, slightly. After a year I finally had Mark Romans in Sacramento tune the truck and it drives much better than it did when it was first tuned.

Fast forward to today and my motor that had over 100k miles on it when the supercharger was installed is finally ready for rebuild at 145k miles. I got 3 years and 40k+ miles on the well seasoned mill so I am happy. It is getting a fresh ATK HP93 6.0L long block. The all aluminum 5.3L that still runs great but started burning oil is being sold as a core.

If you want the SCT box with the canned tune from Edelbrock make me an offer. I don't have much use for it. Not sure you will like the 105MPH limit but it will get you into a safe tune you can use as a baseline?

Thanks Mike. I ordered a full Whipple kit and a bunch of other goodies from Mike at New Era Performance. The stuff is just starting to trickle in so it'll be a few weeks before I have an update/build thread, but I am getting somewhere!
