never liked how the prochargers pull air from the engine compartment, has to be hotter being underhood, behind the radiator etc.

The paxton that was on the suburban was a reverse inlet pulling air from the stock filter area, corvette style.

I have a couple of questions...
1) Can someone explain front vs rear air inlet? Pros/cons? Pics?
2) I plan on cam, head porting, 6.2L TB, E85, LT4 injectors & pump. Upgrading to a D-1SC head have any value or too much with this setup?
As you found out, the front vs rear has to do with the intake tube. Pick your poison here. I'd probably just stay with the rear. That seems odd because of the filter placement. But I don't like the additional restriction put in place by the additional bends.

I would look at a cam, but I would not look at spending the coin on the head porting for a forced induction DI 5.3. I do not feel the gains offset the cost. You can always pulley down a bit more. I've seen these trucks break 700 on a stock head procharger combo, more than once. If you want more than that (reliably) then you are looking at pistons and a bigger blower anyway.

If you're looking to make the most on E85 then you may need to look at a replacement in tank pump. The Corvette guys have been running into this when they start getting to 600 or so. Even with the LT4 HPFP. There are exceptions, but not many. (I'm talking about without methanol here)

I would highly recommend methanol injection if your're going into the 500 plus area. The cooling alone is worth it, especially in our heat. Plus it will give you more headroom.

What is your goal for the time being? I ask it this way, because it almost always changes. If you're wanting a ton of fun, be able to lay a whipping on most stuff you run across on the street, and not create a ton of headaches...

Then I would look at doing a D1 procharger, methanol, and a dang good tune to go with it.

After that, I would step way way up. The expense to go just past the first stage I mention is just not a good bang for the buck.

Once you start spending the money to go past the blower and the meth, you are pretty much just parts costs and machine work away from putting in whatever engine combo and insanity you choose.

This combo will already be at the limits of the stock transmission. A good tuner will make it live at this power level. Above this, you are looking at transmission and driveline upgrades. (I know, many have gone higher, but many more break)

I may have missed a few things I meant to say and hopefully didn't leave out any important details. I was pulled away by work a few times while trying to get this typed up.

I like where this guy's head is at. I would go D1 and plan on running meth most likely.

I appreciate your response on the heads. I had it in my mind that a DOD delete was required for FI. Not only do I see other's doing blowers with just the AFM turned off, but obviously the Z06/LT4/A8 comes with AFM from the factory. So I'll probably skip all that noise for now.

So I'm not looking to go full court press with this setup as it's a true daily driver. I have an E85 pump a few blocks from my house, so I run that all the time. Hence my preference of E85 over a meth kit. The only time I run E10 is when I'm traveling and don't have ready access to E85.

So I would hope with modest boost (8-10 psi), the LT4 pump and injectors would be sufficient on E85. And I'm not looking for performance on the rare occasion when running E10 so that should negate the need for a meth kit.

BTW I picked up this kit...

The D1SC head kit, catch can and breakout harness. I can still probably grab the meth kit if you guys feel it's a necessity with my requirements.

Every Procharger install I've seen has it pulling air from right above the header/exhaust and they put down great numbers.

The HOB kit is an exception since they have a configuration that can use the stock airbox area to pull fresh air from.
