Default new odd prodject

this is a new prodject i am thinking about diving into and i am just looking for some opinions, ideas, critisism(SP), or whatever. some backround-i just bought this truck yesterday. it is not going to be a daily driver, the main reason i bought it was to tow my quads to the dunes. so it has to be able to tow. i also would like it to be somewhat quick, doesnt need to run 11s but as you can all understand i like to go fast. now for the odd part. it is an 89 s-10 blazer 2wd 2 door 4.3 auto blah blah blah. but it will kick some a$$ when i am done with it. onto the plan- i want to pick up a 4.8 to slap in there, (5.3 and 6.0 just cost more and the 4.8 will be enough for that little truck i think)drive with original trans till it blows(a week later), and do a custom rear mount turbo(not much room under the hood with a v8 in there). it looks like the stock 4.8 is strong enough to hold plenty of power so i will leave it faily stock. does anyone know what turbo the sts 4.8 kit comes with and what it is capable of flowing? has anyone done any towing with a turbo 4.8?

turbo + towing = normally

get a roots/twinscrew type supercharger for towing, i believe it should fit

there are a few guys around here that would let their good 4.8 go for $500+

check out 02vortech he custom built a rear turbo for his 94-up model s10 blazer with 4.3

i dont know, superchargers have never excited me that much. i would think that if you could keep iat down, have the right gearing, and have a fairly small a/r(so you would have boost at a low rpm), it would work. also a very good tune. but i could be wrong.

When I tow, I leave it in low boost which is 7lbs. Only thing done to the motor is a small Vinci cam and ls6 springs. Has never gotten hot, or even heated up while towing. But I've never towed hard in the middle of summer. I did put a good sized tranny cooler on it. I do have a intercooler and Meth injection too. I recently towed a 96 Firebird on a open car trailer (about 5200lbs total) about 200 miles with as much as 50 mph head winds (which SUCKED!) and it had no trouble pulling it.

Also, Im running a STS T60-1 turbo with a .68 A/R exhaust housing on it.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. How many big rigs are turbocharged? How many diesel trucks from the factory are turbo?

Turbos are excellent for towing.
