Default New Guy preparing for a turbo build

Hey yall, new to the forums and I don't even have the Silverado yet. I'll be buying a higher mileage truck for cheap and plan on rebuilding close to everything. I want to do a fun twin turbo build. I will be looking at fabbing up a zf6 6 speed manual to replace the 4 speed automatic and various other goodies hopefully. I want a fun truck with a little power but I would like to keep fuel economy in mind. (Please don't tell me to go buy a Honda... It doesnt hurt to try and be a little cautious when it comes to fuel usage.) I'd rather not go for a rear mount system but maybe a mid frame mount like aps use to do for the gto's: APS GTO twin turbo system - one time deal - $5695 delivered-offer extended till May - LS1GTO.com Forums

I do have some knowledge when it comes to building cars but I'd love to gather advice, opinions and setups from the massive knowledge base on this forum.

I used to own a 2005 gto with a vrx5 cam tfs 220 cfm heads milled by Total engine airflow to make 11.6 c/r. I had jeremy formato at fasterproms down in lutz, fl port my t/b and intake. He tuned it to 452 rwhp 405rwtq.
I sold the goat to get a 2011 gti and regretted it the day it left the driveway without me in it :/

I'm looking to get a 4wd z71. I'd like a manual to put in the truck and that trans seems like a really solid trans and would hold up later on down the road should I go with more power. Why wouldn't you go with that though?

As far as turbo kits go, kbracing and trick make great kits. A lot of people on this forum go with their kits. Although, I do think kbracing is closed for the summer.

Plan on a rear end and trans, they grenade on stock trucks.

It is solid, no doubt. You said fun street truck, and depending on tire size, and gear ratios, that will determine its overall gearing and I know you don't have many options, going manual with 4wd. Though I just don't see it being a blast to drive. You can always put it in L and try to pull some trees down.. haha Just my opinion..

Trick has a twin setup but IMO it would be a waste unless you are trying to make big power (forget gas mileage). There are plenty of guys making 700+ with a single turbo, so I would go that route. Plan on upgrading the trans, rear end, and fuel system as well.

I'm probably going to build my own kit. The twin turbo vs single turbo is still up I'm the air though. I love driving a standard shift vehicle so I think that that will be the best route for me and its future proof.
This is where I got the idea and why I plan on that trans specifically: 6-Speed Manual Transmission Swap

Thanks all for your input, much appreciated!

If you can weld, have good skills and be patient... You can fab up your own kit and save good money.
