New engine build, What do you think
#1
Well had problems with my 5.3 in my 04 SSR so here is the parts I have so far, New LS6 block, Eagle forged with in house work crank, Rods, J&E 9to1 coated pistons, 377 C.I., 225 Dart heads, Comp Pro magnum 1.85 rockers bee hive springs and rpm kit, Magna Charger and razor alky spray, Don't have a cam yet, Want a good cam that will be at home on the street, Will have my supermaxx ss headers coated and use the rest out of the 5.3, Add a better boost gauge with reset, Good wideband 02 and HPTuner That is about it I think

Is that the 112 maggie? How much cfm does it flow? How much power do you want to make? It sounds like you may need more cfm to max out your combo. My question is will the 112 supply enough air for your combo. Will it hold you back. (I don't know) Is the 112 good for 500-600hp to the wheel? I guess the 122 is not needed right? I guess I am a bit extream.

The MP112 will make a good 6psi on that ci engine. If you want more boost then a MP122 or a turbo is what you should be looking for.
I can make 9 pounds on my 6L with a MP112 but, the IAT's are not pretty after even a short run.

A good cam for your combination would be a 114-116 LSA 112-113 CL 222/228 Duration and around 591/591 lift. That should get you back and forth to the track and yet still perfom great with the MagnaCharger. You could upgrade to the 112HH or the 122HH to feed it plenty. The 122HH will loose a little bottom end over the 112 or 112HH.

Thanks 112 with 2.8 pulley, It had 9-10 pounds of boost on the 5.3 and if it's anything like the 5.3 I wouldn't care to lose some on the bottom end, Some vehicles are for the strip that you can drive on the street like my GN but the SSR will be a mild street that you can take to the strip now and then, I want a cam as big as I can go but have a close to stock idle as I can get, Very street friendly and something I could jump in and drive a few 100 miles without even thinking anything might even go wrong, What tune would be the best, Work on the 5.3 tune or find a LS1 with charger tune? So many questions on a engine change

I am running around 8 psi of boost right now on my engine and you should be fine at this boost level on a high compression (11.0 to 1) 5.7L-6.0L. The cam I described above will give a nice tunable idle and yet breath on the top end. You may want to consider the 112 HH upgrade for a little more on the top end. The tune shouldn't be too hard to nail down after all the tuning you have been doing on your SSR the way it was. Give me a call when you get some free time.
