Nelson Perfomance Front Mount Installed
#1
This is the first vehicle, minus the Avalanche for the front mount to be installed on. Made a stupid mistake on the rear mount and burnt up the seals on the turbo and filled up everything with oil. So I decided to pull the trigger on Allens front mount kit. I am VERY pleased with how this came out, and how simplistic and easy this was to install. The welds are great, bends are awesome, and the kit slid in and out of the truck with great ease. I was able to take the kit in and out with ease. It only took me about 10 minutes to actually get the kit in. With the wrap on, I had to be a little bit more careful not to tear it up. EVERYTHING fit perfectly and bolted together real nice.
I purchased a small moroso overflow tank because the stock overflow tank would not fit with how far it sat over to the right. I think this cleaned up a lot of space and made the underhood look great.
I reused most of my cold side from the STS and just used a short 90 degree bend to fit it on the compressor.
I was worried that the wastegate was not going to clear the hood, and it actually did. The dip stick was bent up/cut and welded to make it fit better. As you can see in the picture.
The underhood temps are suprisingly not bad at all. My interceptor gauge is not working properly so I can't actually read the intake temps. But while tuning with Allen for a few hours yesterday he was reading 89 IATs AFTER a few pulls. So it looks pretty good as far as the underhood temps is concerened. I will eventually get a turbo blanket just to be on the safe side.
Another concern I had was if the crossover was going to clear the cross member so I wouldnt be scraping that thing like I did with the last y pipe I had, but after hitting a few speed bumps it has not torn the wrap at all so I was very happy about that. Driving with the truck and just a down pipe and no exhaust, it was SOOOOOO loud. So a muffler is a must. I used a cheap resonator for now, but am probably going to get a muffler similar to Moze's
I haven't really had to move anything to clear the hot pipes at all. I changed the spark plugs the other day and it was very easy. Was able to move around the hot pipes with ease to get to the plugs.
Coil packs do have to be flipped but no fabrication at all. I did have to buy make a plug wire kit to make my own. The hot pipes do not even get close to touching any wires at all.
After some runs on the freeway, this girl PULLS and PULLS. I love it. I loved everything about this kit, the simplicity, the location of where the turbo sat, and how easy it was to install.
Thanks Allen for doing this kit for me. This kit is really going to blow others out of the water.
Also HUGEEE thanks to Jon at DBRODS, without his patience, help and expertise this project would not have been completed. He is a really good guy for helping me out when my truck went down over a month ago. Also thanks to Kurt, Ricky, and SC.
