Default need 255 pump install info asap on 04 rcsb

im installing a 255 walbro intank pump in a 04 rcsb silverado. when i took it apart i see a metal canister that comes from the fuel pump to it then another hose comes out of it and goes to the outlet. do u have to use it or can u run the hose from the pump straight to the tank outlet. let me know if anyone has done 1. im doing it for a freind and need to get him to work tonite. ANY INFO CALL ME ASAP AT 803 707 4780 THANKS CURTIS

That is your fuel filter, yes you need to use it.

You don't want to bypass the filter. And you really don't want to bypass the fuel pressure regulator.
