Wow...that's as big as my turbo cam except it isn't reverse split. Pretty big cam there!!
Compression is ready for 20 lbs of boost or more!!

I know, the cam has got to go asap. I'm open to suggestions on cam specs

It would be easier to turn up the boost.
My cam seems nice: 222/224 @.050 115 LSA installed +4 degrees. Pulls good on the bottom and revs way out.

Thats crazy. I would expect a 408 with positive displacement blower to have big honkin ***** down low.

I say start by taking care of the slipping trans before breaking into the motor. If its slipping, you'll have to fix it sooner or later. I'm not sure that the cam is really too large. Maybe its an issue coupled with the low compression, but it doesn't seem overly large for a 408.

That's a 6500+lb truck, I would think something 220ish .550'' on a 112 would be about right.

What do you guys think the effect of advancing the current cam further be? Closing the intake valve sooner should give a bit better response at low RPM, or is that a lost cause at 8.4:1 compression?

I had a 224 cam in my 420 IMO something close to that would be good. Along with a smaller pulley. What heads do you have maybe milling them with a different cam could make for one hell of a wild ride

that's the plan. mill the heads to get me to 9:1cr. They are ETPerformance heads. I thought they were 245's but their website says 240. Someone suggested the 450hp Z06 cam would be great for me.

I'd go for something around a 220/224 or a 224/230. Comp has an off the shelf grind with a 224/230 on a 114LSA that might work for your setup. With that low compression I'd certainly be keeping your cam down to 230º or less.
