I emailed rick, and sent pics. He said looks like something was in there. I just dont see it happening with a filter on it for 300 miles. I guess I will be turbo shopping, any turbos to be looking at for round 2?

Oakley- I ran the kit the way your supposed to. I told Rick I build jet engines for a living. I build the harrier jet engines which is like a hoover vacuum, so i know all about FOD and what it does to a turbine. I made sure there was nothing in there, made sure it had a filter everything. Nothing got sucked up. After the noise started, I pulled the airfilter and had a buddy rev up the engine, you can literally see the compressor come forward at 3k, above that it sucks back in, and on the street it does it at a lower rpm, but as soon as you start to spool, it stops rubbing. I didnt start this thread to put the blame, but I really need to know if this problem has happened before. I hate put another turbo on it and have it happen again. 300 miles is all it had on it. It was clear as day whe I pulled the thing apart that it had clean oil inside, bearings are not burned up, i was able to blow through all oil passages with mouth, so I know it wasnt clogged. The turbine blades are not bent, nicked etc, they have rubbed, we call it the butter knife effect on jet engines, not enough to bend anything, but rubs the metal. I cant explain it, and Rick didnt say anything about Magnum possibly helping out with this. I just feel I waited along time to finally get to do this, the turbo developed axial play for some reason. I cannot afford an expensive turbo right now, as i figured this would meet my goals until I atleast got my 80E in and turned the boost up. I may just have to find a cheaper one, and in a few months swap it out. The blades are not even that bad, I blend or polish jet engine blades all the time. I may just order a rebuild kit, and change out the bearings and see if the play goes away, for 40 bucks its worth a shot to me, the oil seals are still brand new in it, everything looks new, except the axial play in the shaft, the shaft isnt even scared up or blued like it even got hot?

Ok, so the backing plate to the housing, where the thrust collar plate goes into it is completely wore out. Metal looks wore out, and the collar will not snap in place with clip. Im only guessing, but shouldnt it not go all the way through, that would allow the compressor to come forward too far. The thrust bearing itself looks good, and no wear marks. So it looks like to repair this thing, is all i need is a housing backingplate and new thrust collar plate/seal?
