It will spool the turbo faster but it doesn't mean that the truck will be faster. I lost time going from 4.10 to 3.73 and now I'm switching back.

Understand I'm not trying to start a pissing contest I want to learn.....could the better gearing have been masking an incorrect choice in converter or something? I've always seen a lower numerical gearset help load the turbo better causing it to spool much faster than a higher numeric gear set.

you cant mod a truck the same as the fbodys. they have slight differences. For a true street truck you need gearing cause we weight over 4k. What good is being in power longer if your truck is slower cause it doesnt have enough forward motion to get off the line?

unless you can leave line with say 700 hp then turn it up on big end why sacifce your setup for lower gearing just to have faster spool?

id rather be at the finish line faster then be in boost longer. converter helps yes, so does transbrake but you still need gear. Doesnt matter if its turbo, super charger, n20 or NA you want to be in your peak power crossing traps.

so if you make peak power at 6k why would you gear your truck so it crosses traps at 4800 ? is it cause you read on the net that lower gearing is better for spooling? id rather be 5800 tru traps and have a better ET. Why do you think you see so many turbo trucks with great mph and shitty ET? gearing is main reason to that

for a 28" tall tire id run 410s, hell i will be 410s and 28" rubber and will be in the hood of 800+ rwhp

I've done just about the apposite of what the "ideal" turbo set-up should be. Going to race with 408 pistons that don't have enough meat to hold power, a 91mm that supposedly is too laggy, 4.10 gears that won't load the turbo, and a 3600 stall that is too loose. I will post whatever times my hooptie runs and maybe a video too.

I took my truck out to the street legal night, track was a mess and I was on street tires, but figured what the hell. Impossible not to blow the tires off, even at the end of 2nd gear, but my trap speeds were still really high. Think gearing it down to maybe 410s would change that? With the slicks on, though..

im not turboed, im not on Nitrous. my truck went from 3:42s to 4:10s i didnt change E.T but picked up MPH/fuel mileage/and it being a TON more fun to drive. plus the 4:10s help get my brick moving like Quik said. Silver-mod-o wanted to go 4:10s in his turboed ecsb if i recall after swapling from 4:10s N/A to 3:73s just saying....those 3:42s MAY help on a high mph roll race but not E.T wise which isnt the whole reason for going to the track?
