Just rode in a 2010 Magnacharger Tahoe
#21
I'll offer this. I have a 2010 Tahoe with a 5.3 that is 100% bone stock. It is one of the biggest turds ever. It has that stupid 6 speed automatic and the motor is so nutless, the thing has to downshift everytime I give it a little throttle.

I'm on my 3rd 60E rebuild now, stock plus HD2 shift kit, then stage 2, now stage 3 with billet input shaft. Should have gone 4L80E from the beginning, but made it 4 years on the stock trans with the blower, so figured a built one would hold up even longer, haha.
It's down because of 5 cylinders not firing all of a sudden and haven't figured out why yet.
It's a DD so didn't want to go crazy on the stall speed. It's enough to get the pig off the line, but not annoying. If I didn't tell you it was aftermarket, you wouldn't notice under normal throttle. It's on the stock converter in the video, feels a bit quicker off the line now.
I'd guess it's ~460rwhp, ~550rwtq on a good day.
Gas mileage is terrible on e85, about 9 around town, if I go easy. I've seen 7 when I drive a bit more spirited. I'm about 12 on 93 octane, so not awful, but I have to use premium which isn't cheap (well it is when oil is $45). Something to consider if you want to DD it and take it on road trips.

Your 3rd 60E....I would have stopped after the 2nd. If you were to go with a 4L80E, what would you do to keep from it being a pig off the line? I read thats one regret of going with a 80E. Just a pain to do the driveshaft, another tune, modify the x-member, and then you have a sluggish trans that most likely won't break.
I would think the SC would eat up more gas compared to a turbo since its always producing boost no matter what...correct?

Truck probably made real low 400s at the tire with that level of mods. Truck is a full weight 2009 4x4 Silverado, so probably similar weight to a Tahoe but probably a few hundred lighter. After some additional boost, cam, and heads the truck ran 12.7@109.5 and made 518 rwhp on a 3rd gear pull.
Just the blower and headers (7-8 psi):
With H/C and over driven crank(~10 psi):

Yea true they are such heavy turds stock. Your talking around 6k lbs with a passenger on board. You should drive one with the 4L60 and not the 6 spd they are so much worse. I have a 06 4x4 tahoe with 4L60 and 3.42 gears. With 32" tires it ran 16.9 at 80-81mph. Swapping in a high mile lq4, with 799 heads and one of my cams for cats and stock manifolds it went 15.0/99mph with everything else stock and injectors maxed by 4800 rpm. Made a huge difference but thing is still a pig for all the work of the swap. Im sure with 4.10's, a converter, and headers it would go 13's but why lol...

Ive had a turbo truck and a maggie truck... same 11 PSI... i wont ever go back to a turbo..thats my feeling on the subject. My blower truck was not a FAST as my turbo truck as far as MPH and HP but more fun to drive. The power was smoother and the curve was better... not to mention my 5.3 TVS1900 truck was 2-0 against 2 other CCSB 70/76 mm turbo trucks.. while they were trying to build boost and get going i was already out ahead and it was over. The simple fact is...Turbos are cheaper and "cooler" to do right now..and everyone is wanting to 550-600 hp and spend like 4k....im about to do a TVS2300 on my 6.2 very soon.. not a turbo.

kaz,
Wouldn't the 2.9 net you more growing room? Grant you the DI motors are badass to start with. Just curious since the kits out there for them are 2.9's.

Madmann... are you talking about a 2.9 whipple? or is the jack shaft maggie a 2900?? I was thinking the 2300 was the largest i could kit through Magnacharger.
