Intake manifold & inject size for turbo setup

for a FI set up if your going to step up from stock there is no reason to do anything other than the vic jr. 02sierraz71_5.3 is right though, the vic jr intake didn't really seem to do much for me but he(02sierraz71_5.3 ) is comparing my single stock intake to my twins vicjr intake and thats not a fair test of the intake swap alone. just swaping the intake didn't really seem to do much of anything but it did give me some piece of mind.
i guess the way i see it the vicjr just looks so much nicer and doesn't really cost that much that for any serious(600+?) set up i would just go with it.

Been thinking about this for a while, well ever since I saw the VicJR maifold.
Is there a dual carb manifold out there that you could use injectors with and two TBs???
I know, it sounds crazy but would it not help the lean cylinder conditions even more than the VicJR? The flow from two linked cable TBs would be awesome for very high HP set ups ....no?
I know this will never apply to me but it would be a pretty cool set up if done right.

The W2W motors are world class but you can bet they are optimized for that intake and are meant to run down the track in the 5000-7000 rpm range. If that is the range he is shooting for Id say Vic Jr.
Another option to think about is the L76intake L92 heads and people are talking like this thing is the **** outflowing fast stuff its meant for a larger bore should work very well on a 408

Another thing people may want to take into consideration is packaging......the Vic Jr manifold is alot easier to get your discharge pipe too on a truck application than an LS2 or FAST manifold. Changing the FEAD to work with the lower manifold is just a biatch, and not cost effective IMHO.

Thunder, I have built almost the same setup that you have described. Iron block 408 with billet mains, low comp Diamond pistons, Victor Jr/NW 90, 96# inj, MTI Y1 on a 116* LSA, and an STS Precision 76GTS turbo for my GTO. I ran Patriot Stage II heads (that I bought from a well known guy on LS1tech) on it during engine break-in, and the passenger side head was leaking coolant...thought it was the freeze plug but turned out to be a bad (warped) deck--supposedly only had 4k miles and were in great condition (guess not everyone is honest). Anyway, I now have AFR 225s on it, and it is being tuned tomorrow with 6# boost. Once the turbo has some hours on it we'll see how big of numbers we can produce. At the moment, I'm wishing that I would've stuck with the LS6 intake instead of the Victor Jr. The Edelbrock looks cool but what a hassle to get set up, and the single plane design will not be the best for cruising. We'll see if it is worth the effort of the top end. One of the guys mentioned fuel, if you get into the 700rwhp range you will definitely need more that 60# inj and the inline Walbro. If interested I'll give you more detail on my fuel system.
As for tunnel rams, they are cool for 4000+ operation but not alot of fun down low. Thats why the sheet metal intakes are racing items...and why I didn't go that route.

my truck runs prety good down low. it is smooth and easy to tune. the vic jr intake prety much just bolted on and then i ran a few fuel lines. it was one of the easiest mods i have done.
since we are talking about a truck here i assume he allready has a truck intake. i did fine with a truck intake even up into the 20ish boost presure. the only thing i would sugest is run it a little on the rich side just to be safe. like in the lower 11's. if your talking about steping up from the truck intake whats the point of such a small step to a ls6 intake? i am not sure it is any better than the truck intake especialy if you want to start talking about loosing low end.

I agree that it is not worth swapping the truck manifold for an LS6 in a F/I application, and if max street/DD effort is the goal, the Victor is probably the best "compromised step" toward that goal.
All that said, it does appear that Thunder is looking to economize his project, and the jump from truck manifold to Edelbrock is not a strong "$$ per HP" value with a set of stock 317 heads. I would look at "needs" over "electives" at this point. For instance, I have not examined the truck fuel systems with 800rwhp goal "down the road" (I'm at least 300rwhp from that) but if it is anything like my GTO, I would look at upgrading the fueling with a return style system before worrying about the intake options. IMHO...

I don't have any manifold right now, I had the Radix on my LQ9 but obviously I am going to go a different direction. A truck manifold would be the cheapest thing for me to pick up, and I like cheap, but if there is a big difference in both safety and performance then I don't want to compromise either one.
On the plus side, I already have a return-style fuel system since my truck is an 01

i dont see a big diference in performance or safety. i would save the vicjr for one of the last mods and thats prety much what i did on my truck. i had people telling me i was nuts to run the stock intake as long as i did but i really didn't see much from the vicjr.
my turbo system has the ability to be turned up much higher than i am pushing it right now and with a little valve train i could spin my motor way up. if i decided to do these things then i am sure the vicjr would start to pay off more.
