Default GM 4L85E and GM controller with FI

I don't know what happened to my other thread... it was fubared when I posted it and couldn't edit or add to it...

Anyway...

Wondering if anybody has used the GM 4L85E (19156257 - 2WD, 17801261 - 4WD) and the GM Controller 12497316... for boosted apps... preferably daily drivers... (edit) - 1/2 ton daily drivers

I am looking for folks that have bolted in the tranny with no mods other than maybe an aftermarket converter. Use a different controller? If so, who's? If you modded the tranny prior to install did you change and/or upgrade anything?

Thanks,

Bill

I don't know about the controller but, I wondered what you had posted because nothing at all showed up when I clicked on your old thread, now I know.

You don't need the controller, that transmission can be run with your stock PCM.I've never seen a 4L85 offered with the correct bellhousing,I believe that the 5pinion planetaries are the only change from a 4L80E.I also think that a FLT 4L80E would be stronger.Spend the money for the controller on a converter.

I agree with whitt about using the stock PCM, it's not difficult to do.

GMPP says their 4L85E tranny will fit "LS-style"... GMPP 2006 catalog - page 262.

255lbs
1st gear - 2.482
2nd - 1.482
3rd - 1.00
4th - 0.750
... comes with a 2300 stall converter...

So, is the 4L8 series trannys a direct bolt / wire in? ... other than perhaps a driveline mod? If not, who has the best adaptor harness? Cross member different? I'm all for no external controller if it is not necessary.

Is Chuck using 5 pinion plantaries in his 80E upgrades?

speartech for the harness and pcm file conversion...i dunno who does the crossmember for the trucks...or you can do it yourself...not hard at all. You should get a vac. modulator conversion IMHO

Speed engineering does the crossmember, harness and complete conversion.I built my own crossmember and Speartech did my harness and PCM file about 3 years ago.

Sean at speed engineering can set you up with any or all parts of the setup.

Best to probably call Chuck up and ask about the parts he uses. I'm sure he wouldn't mind talking to ya.
