funny story but not really

About a month ago I put a whipple on my pickup and i put on some 8.1 marine injectors to go along with it. when i started it for the first time it ran for about 10 seconds and i thought i saw a fuel leak so i shut it off and checked it and everything looked fine so i cranked it up again and it started hammering like crazy right away. It broke a rod and knocked a couple holes in the block and i was completely clueless of how this happened because there wasn't anything on top of the piston and there wasn't any ding marks. So i just thought that maybe water got in there once and bent the rod and it just decided to break once i put my blower on. Now i put a different motor in and was going to start it yesterday and when i checked the oil for the last time it looked funny and when i smelt it it reeked of gas. I pulled the rail and injectors up and put some rags down and turned the key on and on the cylinder that blew, the injector was stuck open and dumping gas. So now after one motor and 6 fresh quarts of royal purple I realize that its all because of that one injector. And i bought the injectors outside of an ebay auction so theres nothing i can do about that.

I don't think a wideband would have helped in this situation. If you're running big enough injectors, it will flow enough fuel to hydralock the motor on startup. I had a similar problem with a stuck injector, luckily during startup the flywheel broke while cranking but I still havent checked to see if I bent a rod or anything.
One way to avoid this is to have a fuel pressure gauge installed and watch to see if the pressure stays steady before startup. If it drops quickly, you obviously have a problem. Mine did this when my motor hydralocked, but since I hadn't dealt with this situation before I didn't think about it being a stuck injector.
