Default ECT's with Radix

What are your Engine Coolant Temps running at on similar model truck as in my sig? Again, towing up hills are the results I am looking for but will hear whatever you guys can tell me.

My water temps are getting to 230* and the ambient temp is maybe 80*. IAT is around 145* when running 6 PSI for a good minute. I tried both my electric fan and stock fan setup, electric was a good 10* cooler when left on all the time.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to get larger rad or any better coolants to try? Or is 230* okay? I am sure if it was a longer hill it would be even higher.

This test is with about 80-90% load so not quite to floor in second. Even in third at 75% it gets hot. Maybe a larger heat exchanger for intercooler is in order. Could this be what is causing my high EGT's or other way around?

I forgot what our (your) stock thermostat is. I imagine you are stock with that as well. Which would mean your temps sound about right. I have a 180 stat and see 190 most of the time except like yesterday when it was 95 out. Then I can see ECT of 200 to 205.

A larger Hxr won't hurt you, that's for sure. It will definitely bring your IAT's down and more managable. Not so sure about the egt's. I'd bet they won't chnage much. You have cat's right? i don't have much experience with the stock radix tune. So won't vouvh or not vouch for it, but the word is it's a farily rich tune. Your cat's are lighting off all of that extra fuel. If it is true that it is such a rich tune.

I've never seen a 230. I now have a 180 stat and run 195. With ambient at 90 yesterday it ran 205. IAT's run about 125-135 with 150 max (130max with the methanol) at 12 pds boost with the 2.8 pulley. I'd be concerned if I were running 230.

Jim, what's the stock thermo temp supposed to be? I don't remember, I've had the 180 for a few years. I see you have the 180 as well...so maxxing out to 205 seems normal to you but not his setup.

Just looked at mine stock one 86C so that is 186* but mine didn't open until about 196* to 198* plus if you are going by your temp gauge they aren't very accurate. you need to check it with some scanning software

yeh I just checked my receipts, I have the 170* as well. But with hot temps outside and I am reading 184 on the scanner it's safe to say add 10 to 15* to your stat setting.

Well I ordered a different core for my rad today. It is suppossed to fit right in with original tanks. Guy I am buying it from has some tanks with a bent core so I may use those and have a complete stock rad for spare or for sale. It is like 2.5" thick instead of 1". Should make the ECT's go down I would think. Will try it with the E-fans and see. Also am getting some NGK TR7IX's at 0.030" gap. Hoping to stop alot of many many little issues with this. Next will be EGT's, by by cats...on to custom tuning.

I got the rad late on Friday, had it installed by 8 pm and was off to go camping. My ECT's never moved any higher on the guage than driving when empty. Thank god. I towed up some decent grades too with my e-fans turned off and it still didn't get hot. My fuel milage was pretty shitty, around 7 miles per imp gallon, which is about 5.8 miles per US gallon. OUCH
