can't sleep.....had an interesting FI idea

take 2 head units of your choice, be it twin turbos, twin blowers, twin centri's, whatever.............instead of using a common plenum, set it up in banks or sides. For simple math, lets say we have a 400 ci motor, or 2 200 ci halves......since I'm not very familiar with turbo sizing vs. ci displacement .......let's take something old, cheap, and plentiful........2 M90 Eaton blower head units, 1 for each 200 ci side. Let's say we go MAF-less for ease of intake routing.........(thinking out loud).....do we keep the exhaust systems seperate? or do we merge them............any other issue's we may need to consider?

A true positive displacement blower like a roots style would be the best I feel, that way you know each side is getting the same amount of air. If you use a turbo and you have a miss on one cyl then the turbine on that side won't be pumping as much air. Regaurdless of which type of FI you go with I still feel you need at least a balance tube between each intake bank.
On another thought, the best set-up I can think of would be a supercharger and turbo. I think this has already been done, but have a turbo pushing all the time and have a clutch on the supercharger (maybe an electro one like on a a/c compressor) and have the supercharger disengage at around 3k rpm for example to take care of turbo lag. I'm thinking Mercedes or some company has at least toyed with the idea.

I think you might still want some type of a balance tube between them. Some did a twin supercharge set up but it had a common plenium. Blowers were tilted but still fti between the valve covers.
The exhaust I would run them together or some form of a cross over, again that balance thing.
If you split the banks perfectly you now have 2 4 cylinder engines. Not sure what the harmonics would do.
It would be an interesting test.
