The Metco Idlers wont handle the load and will begin to high speed wobble.

Hmmm.

Inovators makes a non shouldered idler and it is also larger in dia.

They have a dual bearing pulley out now that's supposed to hold much higher loads

This pulley can be installed as a direct replacement for an OEM idler pulley or anywhere a standard Metco Motorsports idler pulley can be installed. Also available in 90mm diameter - see the Metco Motorsports MIPDBR90 listed elsewhere in this section.

Important Note: As of 7.1.2008, the Metco Motorsports double-bearing idler pulleys have been revised to add compatibility with 10-rib drive systems. The pulleys are wider and have an updated machined design, but maintain compatibility with standard 8-rib drive systems (Cobra & Lightning). The picture shown is of the newest design.

Anyway, it's sounding like I might be better off sending this ATI kit back and ordering the IW 8 rib instead. 14 psi on Hank's 427ci motor has to be equivalent to 15-16 on a 403, no?

We just started using that pulley again for the TVS2300 8 Rib System. It was needed because of the idler plates offset off the Alt Bracket.

We found around a 2 psi difference between my 370 and the 427 of Ray's.

Has anybody asked Innovator's if they would carve a 10rib? I agree that belt selection on 10-rib could make life a diffifcult for awhile sourcing the right one. Brian posted one up... there have got to be more. Get ahold of Dayco, Goodyear, whoeever makes belts and start asking questions. Someone will need to lay the ground work for 10rib... as in find the belts in different sizes and work with vendors to supply quality pulley/idlers, etc. Personally, if it were me I would not worry about 2% underdrive on the ATI HB... maybe that means talking to some alternator folks and get more info at what aftermarket can provide as far as idle power. What worrries me the most on 10rib is the side load of the pulley as you are extending out the center of the belt from the bearing... speaking specifically regarding alternator and power steering. I could be wrong I'm just throwing it out there as a premautre wear failure possibility.
8-rib has certainly proven itself... no doubt... and more belt choices. I don't know Chris. If you are not in a hurry then be that guy that perfects the 10rib for trucks

As far as the alternator goes, I figured last night that idling my engine at 700 RPM with the ATI pulleys will give me the same alternator RPM as idling with the factory pulleys at 600RPM, so it shouldn't be an issue since that's about where the trucks idle at from the factory.

Belt selection is going to be the issue now. Brian had that one part number listed above, but I searched Gates and Goodyear and could not find it listed in their catalog. Maybe I do need to call and see what's available.

One thought I had though, is that if I did do the 10 rib setup I can always run an 8 rib belt on it until I find a good source for 10 rib belts....

The belt number I posted up is one that WE had made for the 10 rib IFFD systems.

If we could find 10 rib belts in various sizes maybe somebody would make a complete pulley kit up for us and do a group purchase.

I spoke with IW on the phone a little bit ago. They are willing to take their overdrive 8 rib setup and make me a 10 rib setup in the same configuration. Cost is not significantly more. It's looking like I might go ahead and do that...need to arrange for the return of my ATI kit first, before I get stuck with 2 sets of pulleys....
