6.0 build coming soon
#1
Hey everyone, haven’t really been active over the last 3-4 years and have been lurking again over the last couple months. I built a 5.3 (NA H/C) about 6ish years ago while I was in the military and about 15k miles later it developed a rod knock and i have been driving it that way every since. A part of me was wanting to drive it until it finally let go but 30k miles later and its still holding on. Has good oil pressure and everything just knocks as you would imagine. Also, i did not do the machine work or assemble the short block. I pretty much installed the cam, heads, and covers before setting the engine in and finishing up the motor swap. Needless to say i was not real happy when it developed the knock but whatever.
Now that the back story is over, i have decided to swap to a 6.0 and I am really hung up on wanting to go FI with this one. In reality I know i don't need it and at first my original plan was to buy a good set of .030 over pistons and maybe a decent set of rods, swap the heads and cam from the 5.3 over to 6.0, shoot for about 11.5:1 compression and let it ride. It would probably be good for about 350-360 rwhp and torque in my heavy tire 4wd z71.
So about the FI debacle.. this is my daily driver and I use it as a truck. I pull a few different compact tractors and implements with a heaviest total weight of about 8k pounds. So right off the bat a supercharger sounds like it would be perfect(and it probably would). I have no desire for 600-700 rwhp but 450-500 max would be perfect for what i do. I don’t race or play much but I do occasionally let it eat for the fun factor. I have been looking at smaller options such as the mp122 since it seems cheaper than going tvs1900 and would probably meet my power goals. With a supercharger i also like the clean look and can keep my same headers and stuff. Going the supercharger route overall seems more simple than a turbo kit. I have already done the 4l80e swap so should be good on the transmission side. What is you guys take on running something like the mp122? Are there any kits out there geared more toward cathedral port ls heads? I have done a little research but have not seen much.
Thanks in advance!

Can you even find MP122? I expect most people are going to steer you away from it anyway, TVS platform is just excellent. Of course you can barely find those either, unless you buy one new. LSA supercharger is another option, but that costs just about as much as a new TVS setup now.

I took a look into the lsa as well and by the time you buy the adapters or get new heads as well as other necessary parts to make it work on the trucks it was just about the same price as buying a tvs1900 kit.

I ran a Magnuson MP112 for 15 years and 177,000 miles on the blower, I loved it, made towing very easy, and a fun daily driver. The TVS is a much better supercharger, I would go that route even I had to wait and save up for it.

^^^good to know. Whats appealing about the mp122 is the initial cost of getting into it. The tvs1900 is definitely appealing but i do like that the tvs1900 is a complete kit. Although it would be a little savings if i got the kit without the tuning aspect if it since it will be dyno tuned. I guess I should look more into the tvs1900 kit.
