Default 5.3 Whipple LT4 hpfp

An LT4 hpfp and injectors are being installed on my 5.3 2016 Silverado. They’re have been lots of problems with interference. There’s not enough material to fix it by grinding the manifold. Adding weld metal should have worked but there was too much cracking. A little fabricated box has finally been welded in allowing the manifold to fit correctly.
i read where some folks install these with no issues so there is significant variability in the castings. Milling the pump would have helped though I’m not sure if that alone would have been enough.
The blower was purchased in fall 2017.
Just a heads up.

I have been considering the upgrade. Very bad news.

I didn’t mean to imply this is a show stopper. Just something to be prepared for and/or talk with your installer about. Many folks have this combination runnIng and I will too.

Do you have any pictures of the install or issues?

You can see a penetration in the one picture causing high idle. Not sure the exact amount of interference but it’s not tiny.

It'll work out. The lt4 pump is popular so eventually Whiple will get it straight.

I bet it’s a pretty small percentage of Whipple 2.9L Blower owners that upgrade to the LT4 HPFP on an L86/L83/LT1

Has anyone seen a Fuel Injector Horsepower Calculator for DI engines?

Put some thermal plates on it and raise the blower up. I run them on my 2017 zl1 and it’s night and day for temps with out them on the car in the summer. With out I can’t touch the lid after driving the car with them it stays around 90/100 degrees so they do work. That’s an easy way around this problem. I hold the bolt on record for the zl1 for boost only with stock heads and cam at 9.52@143 so trust me they do help hp on drag racing. Interchiller in Australia is currently making some new ones to fit the lt4 /lt1 blower cars trucks which will be way better then faster proms that are around now.

Great idea. Do the thermal plates fit Whipple? Guessing they should.
