Default 4.8L Rot Box... Turned Duramax Killer

Hi there everyone!

Have a crazy new build starting to get built up now and need some feedback from you guys on your opinions. My brother is a die hard duramax guy, but has just purchased a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8L, with a 4L60E. The truck is a regular cab long box. After buying the truck with plans of boost, all of his Duramax friends have told him he's a tool and that there 7000# trucks will smoke his boosted 4.8L, which I know is wrong lol. However, I am in the midst of putting together a parts list for the build for him, and we have some parts to begin with. The cam, springs and valve springs are going to be Comp Beehives, Hardened Pushrods, and a Comp 220 Cam that has been used for boost before. The truck is likely gonna get a 4L80E or this 4L60E built. The questions I have for you guys would be:

- 4L60E Build of 4L80E?
- Converter Size?
- To Run High 10s and Low 11s, how much RWHP?
- What turbo kit would you recommend?
- What size turbo to put down enough boost without too much lag
- Throttle Body Size and Intake Manifold for Boost Build, on a budget? I would really like to stay Cable Operated instead of Drive By Wire, and would rather not have to spend $900 on a FAST LSX-RT if possible. Can you make a TBSS Manifold take a Cable Driven Throttle Body??

The truck will probably need to put down at least 500WHP to get into the 11s I would think. It will have Drag Radials on it when it comes down to the time to start outrunning duramax's every week at the local test and tune! Hope to hear some good replies and we are also planning on staying stock heads, bottom end, and just looking for information on everything else. Build is absolutely budget minded, so please don't be posting 10K worth of parts that would make the truck 'better'. This is a beater truck that is gonna look like s*** and go like stink.

Thanks Walker. I was looking at the trick kits quite a bit. Only other question I had for all you guys would be going with the turbo, if I wanted to add a little more horsepower and make a little bit quicker pass, is Water Meth injection with FI a good power adder for colder Intake Temps?

I'm spraying meth right now. helps a lot! I'm just doing 50/50 meth/water. I went with the devils own kit. A bunch of people say the controller sucks. But I have only had mine for about a month. Hopefully I don't have many problems with it.

If your planning on running that cam, I would do I circle d 3200 triple disk. I have a little smaller cam than that one. My converter is awesome!

unless the duramax has a big single or twins and alot of fuel, shouldnt be hard to out run one
it takes alot of money/power to get those things fast

My brother is very familiar with the Duramax scene, he does a lot of tuning himself for duramax's and he owns two of them as well. This is his new and third truck, and we are hoping to really get into the 10s without spending too much of a fortune. I know to gets 10s in a duramax those guys are running twins and compounds, forged motors, and all kinds of transmission parts to survive that! Hoping this truck won't take that kind of stuff to make her sing down the track into the 10s.

Thanks for that reply again Walker. I am thinking that running some Meth might be the right thing to do. We are trying to decide between intercooler or not, and I think he should regardless. It will get driven some on the street and I'm afraid he'll lose a lot of horsepower without one. And as far as converter goes, I would have to agree. I am in the process of building my LQ4 in my 2500HD and it is gonna see a 3200 Circle D I believe!!

you can do it with big single, good injectors/pump and a strong trans, prob some nitrous. if its a RC truck and light maybe on fuel

Hes gonna be spending at min 10k to even think about it, that doesnt include suspension stuff, tires etc

I think we are really looking right now at a big single turbo, maybe 91mm. Some 75# Injectors or something in the range like that, and the camshaft I listed above. On top of that, looking at a 4L80E conversion and trying to figure out gearing for the rear end? Does anyone have any idea what to think about rear gears for that? I just read a thread of a guy spraying with stock suspension and traction bars and he was running 11.3s in the quarter. I think with some better rear suspension, drag radials like that guy, and a good set of track bars 10s are certainly achievable
