Just picked up a 06 crew cab thats somewhat prepped for a turbo already. The previous owner just lost interest i assume.
4.8
BTR stage 1 turbo cam with springs
long tubes, no cats
ON3 340lph fuel pump
HP tuners tune
electric fans
tru cool 40k trans cooler.
so i didn’t wanna go twins and i really dont wanna mess with putting a different set of manifolds on. Whats the consensus on installing the turbo under the cab/bed and running charge pipe forward? I know STS makes kits but is this something that others have done on their own?
Plenty of people have done what you're suggesting. It may not be as ideal as mounting it in the engine bay, but if the turbo is spec'd right and the tune is right, it will function well.
I'm not sure why you don't want to swap the headers but on these trucks it is very easy. Drivers side can slide in from the top, passenger side can slip out the bottom- just have to jack the truck up a few inches. If they go to a Y pipe to a stock location exhaust, Trick or KB's kit will mate right up to it
