Default $24 to lower IAT's on my MP112

So in the never ending quest to keep my waffle iron cool in the triple-digit Houston summers, but also spend as little as possible and not hurt reliability, I came across people covering their intake tubes and CAI boxes with attic insulation on a Hyundai forum and thought, "that actually makes sense."

So I gave it a shot with $24 in attic insulation from Home Depot. Keep in mind my truck is a daily driver, not a show truck, so I don't really care how the underhood looks as long as it turns on when I want it to and doesn't catch on fire.

End result, much better throttle response and feels much stronger all through the RPM band. Don't have any dyno numbers other than my butt dyno, but hopefully Wheatley can log some IAT's sometime in the next couple of weeks. My before cruising was around 97 and 114 after a 7 second WOT run, I think ambient was around 80 or 90 (I'll check, I have it written down somewhere).

Used this leftover from Raam-matting my truck, spray adhesive:

To clarify, the attic insulation has adhesive backing, but I used the spray adhesive since I already had it and also didn't know how well the backing would stick in such high temperatures over time. I used duct tape at te seams and edges to keep moisture out and hold the edges down. Took me about two hours total taking my time and cleaning everything really well.

Hey if it works great!

You did a nice job wrapping your parts.

Curious to see how well it works. For $20 bucks I might get bored and wrap my intake tube and do some data logging of before and after

Never heard of Raam adhesive.
I was surprised u wrapped intk box too, but it looks great.

But what I'm really wondering, is why u'd be on a Hyundai forum. Actually, there's any forums other than P.T.

Then, after that, a 7 sec WOT run. So, you're runnin 7 sec 1/4's?!?

I'm gonna do what u are if so. Flaco is gonna be worried.

Seriously tho, $24 is a pittance, considering how much we drop on our trucks. I thought there was another way to lower IAT's too? Some kinda ext. harness? Perhaps I'm imaginin things.

I was just googling insulating intakes, in the thought of keeping underhood temps out of my cai, and the hyundai forum was the only one that had some actual results from it.

And no, I certainly don't run 7 second 1/4 miles, nor 1/8 mile sadly I just don't need to be going 90+mph down the feeder in Mexico

i see and under stand what your doing here but there is a reason you only found this done on a hyundai forum... looks like a$$ .

only way i see it to be fit and if it works i would get it line-x covered to hide that foil .

I don't disagree, but I'm all about function over form if it's under the hood.

I believe coating the outer foil in Line-x would negate the heat reflective properties of it and actually absorb the heat, which is what you are trying to reduce in the first place
