to lock or not lock converter

Default to lock or not lock converter

im trying to figure out if its better to lock the(95mph) converter at track?i had it locked on my 06 rc with a 6.0 it ran quicker , but now ive got the 08 rc 5.3 with full bolt ons heads, cam. has anyone tried it either or? thanks

Depends on power output and whether or not you have a multi disc. And obviously, whether or not it slips...

As long as it doesn't slip, you're good to lock it up. Mine slips so I don't...still working on that one.

I lose a little hp on lockup. It isn't much but dropped about 3-5 hp.

get on the track and try it both ways. it's the only way you will find out. mine seemed to run the same times with it locked and unlocked.

if its a high stall converter then you're probably loosing quite a bit by keeping it unlocked, but a small stall say like a stock stall converter and you probably wont feel/see a difference, with you're 3600 and depending on your power output you could gain quite some power by locking

If your not turbo, I say go ahead and try it. For the turbo guys, expect 2-3psi increase, maybe more from load change. That said make sure you have the fuel and tune ready for it.

I locked mine a few times when I was trapping 122-123. With it locked, it went 125 but the ET's stayed the same. I didn't like the big boost change so I leave it alone.
