Default I6 TB converter gains

Alright guys who out there runs or has run the I6 converter before? What kind of gains did you see?

I already have one of these from about 2 years ago when I planned to keep this truck super mild. Now I plan on an 80e swap with a multi disc to keep up with future mods, but for the time being this will do in my stock tranny. I know what you guys are thinking... sack up and go for the circle D 3000-3200, but honestly I know I'm gonna smoke my stock tranny and I don't feel like ruining a good converter while I'm at it. I am having the TB stall put in for free also, so thats a game changer for me. I'll pick up fome stock 243 heads to go with this set up and keep it mild until I can step my game up.

Basically I'm curious what I can expect to gain from this converter. People have pretty confidently told me with my cam a circle D 278 would be worth .5 and a 258 could be worth .6-.7, so is it safe to assume I could be lookin at .3-.4 from the I6 converter only? If thats the case I'll be pretty happy. With a best of 13.85 I would be lookin at a 13.5 or better with heads pushing me into low 13's... not bad for such a mild build on a crew 4x4.

I'm lookin for any FIRST HAND experience people have to offer here. Of course opinions are always welcome, but nothin beats the real deal.

Thanks,
Rob

.1-.2 gain at best. You'll know it's in there the first week you drive it, after that-not so much. What I remember about it is, it's just slightly looser than stock.

Well thats pretty horrible... hahaha

I'm surprised its such a small gain. The circle D 3000 would be worth that much more??? Maybe with the added compression of the 243's ill pick up enough off the bottom to stretch that bad boy out more. I guess I'd even be happy with a .25 gain at this point then.

Roger what were your mods when you ran this converter?

Gotta remember boys, .25 of a second is like dropping 250lbs. off the truck, maybe even more depending on how slow your going to begin with. Thats pretty good! If i could get a .1 or .2 gain from a converter change in the car i would be giggling like a little school girl! haha.

It wasn't my truck, it was one that I worked on. CAI, cat-back, tune, basically stock. It's just a DD, never seen the track.

It takes a pretty decent converter to shave .4-.5 off your 1/4 time.

I hear ya... but I'm coming from stock tranny with a cam... if I dont gain at least a tenth there's something else going on. I have a bit of a hole off idle that this converter could help plug. I think my gains would be more drastic than on a stock truck because of that but who knows. As I said before this obviously isnt a move to end all with this truck... just somethign to plug the gap for really short money until i get my hands on the 80e.

My 60s blow with my converter and smaller cam than you in an lq4. 2.0 is the best I can manage on 32" all terrains and a toolbox full of ****. I'd save the trans swap favor for the 80e swap. .2 is the best I see you getting out of it. There's a huge difference between 2600 and 3200 with the cam you're running and the weight.

I hear ya on saving the favor... if I could I would. This is at a dealership and its "warranty" work. No way I can ask them to even come close to touching an 80e swap... haha.

Basically the truck is going in to have a water pump replaced and I said screw it... im not getting my 80e any time too soon and this verter is just sitting there. It's not as muich of a favor as it is being close with a service manager who can take advantage of warranty work. It's too bad the gains wont be more, but like I said i just can't logically spend any sort of money on a 60e when i hear all these horror stories.

The other thing to note is that I've driven my same exact truck with a GT2-3 and I honestly think my bottom end is stronger or as strong at the least. That thing has some serious lag off the bottom for a cam of its size. I thought it was very weird.

Yeah you're right, the gt2-3 cam blows for an NA cam and is what I'm running

If its going to be that long I'd sell what you got and get the 3200.
