Good? Bad? Possible Ugly?

Haven't been on in quite a while, but here's an update on the truck...
Was driving back to campus the other day, about halfway home just cruising through the countryside around 45 mph, as I crested a rise I thought I heard something, the throttle went in and I lost power. So I coast down and pull off the road. Thought I'd give it a little while to cool just to see. Went to start and it was the most labored sound my truck has ever made. After trying what I knew for about an hour-ish. I finally got a ride with the third person to stop. I went back with a new starter -I knew the old one was going out on me anyway- and replaced it on the side of the road and nothing, absolutely nothing. Was probably a good thing I put the wire on the wrong post, maybe...
Got it towed to a shop that I trust and that's worked on it before. Well, got a call yesterday and looks like the timing chain is gone, and it's possible that the valves are warped. So it's possible that it may have jumped timing as well. But since this was the first time this has happened to me, I didn't know, so when I tried to start the motor and it tried to fire I might have done it in. It'll be a week before the shop can get to it, but I'm cool with that. Once they get the timing chain on they'll know about the valves.
So, depending on which way this goes -and how much it will cost- I may be looking at getting a new motor. So, as the title says Good? Bad? Possibly Ugly? We'll find out.

I've had a couple timing chains/belts go out over the years and engine dependent trash a motor.
Sitting at idle in an old GTO once. Just died. Turned out the hub on the balancer broke off and snapped the timing chain. Bent 2 or 3 valves. If I'd been cruising with any RPM it would have probably been a lot worse.
