79 C10 5.3l swap setting up for auto x
#1
Hi,
I have a 1979 c10 with a 5.3l swap and a 14 bolt rear end. i am going to start setting this up for autocross next spring. I have the front suspension parts to convert my front end over to the 8 lug stuff to match the rear and i am using this to tear into the front and replace bushings and what not. I already have a blazer tank and my battery where my tank used to be. bucket seats installed to make the roll cage a little easier. Just looking for any tips or hints anyone may have in the suspension area. i am looking to run some 18 x 8 or 18 x 9 8 lug rims and 295 or larger series tire. maybe a 4 link if i can find a setup i like.
i talked with the guys at the hotchkis truck yesterday at the del mar show and they said the 73-87 series suspension is on the list of trucks they will be looking to build in the next year or more. he said a leaf spring setup would respond well with properly tuned leafs and a panhard. not sure if i agree with that but we will see.
any one have any help?

What about looking into QA1's...maybe? I really don't know anything about Autocross. I've never even seen a truck participate, so I'm just throwing the QA1 suggestion out there because of a quality product. When you finish the truck, post it up!

Let it all sink in for a few days and then post up any questions you may have to Rob at NoLimit Engineering or Nate at Porterbuilt streetrods.

I have see that thread! I am going to apply some of the ideas in there to get me started. I am thinking my flipped axle rear with an adjustable panhard and good shocks will be all I need out back. For the front I am undecided but I already have a front bar so I will run it and see where I need to tighten up. I will be away for work until the end of may so I am thinking I will do a poly bushing set then.
The truck always drove and handled tight. I read somewhere that 3rd gen iroc steering box guts will fit my steering box. Gotta check that out too.
