nice build.I am pretty sure a lot people just stay with the 350's or 305's the trucks come with because they don't want to deal with the hassle of putting a 5.3 or a 6.0 but in the end a 6.0 swap is so worth the trouble because of the reliability and power.

Dennis
Well all I did was move it back drilled new holes and used the stock 2 hole tranny mount from my previous tranny (th350) it was a direct swap! I would def save the extra money for the 6.0! No prob if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Thanks, its really not too hard if you do the research and spend the money in the right places!

I have a few questions,
I think I figured out the fuel pump, tank, and lines, now I have some more.....sorry

Where can I get a yoke to run the 4l80?
I plan on getting a newer 6.0/4l80. Should I get a 99-02 tb since it is drive by cable? and what else do I need to make it work?
And who can I get to do my wiring harness?

I got mine from a wrecked 2500 hd at the wrecking yard. I got a custom harness from nelson, it was well worth the money and was easy to set-up! Yea I would go with cable driven tb.

lol thanks man, I was hoping you'd say nelson and and cable tb.
One more question, I plan on running a/c, do I need to set my motor back 1 inch, forward 1 inch, or stock placement? I haven't ordered motor mounts yet because I havent found the answer yet thanks again

Whats been going on with you latley?
I just re-checked this thread and noticed this, sorry i did not see it sooner.

What are you going to build for the iron LS1, something old, or put it in a newer f-body or something?

Im just plugging away on the frame and body of my '82 build. Im bagging the front and probably the rear too, just have not decided on a setup yet. I've found a great deal on a 5.3 so now that is in motion. I need to find a 4L60e or 4L80e and start mocking the fuel system up. I think im going with a blazer rear mounted gas tank, so that should free up some space for the air suspension components. I've still got an A$load of work ahead of me and ill be doing very well if it's on the road by this time next year. It's all coming together, just slowly.

My dad has got a 86' monte carlo ss that were thinkin about turning into a race car for the track so if we do build it, im gonna donate the motor to it. You should go for the 6.0/80E setup if you can I think! That will be sweet tho when its all done with that suspension. My old idea on the fuel tank, It was gonna consist of getting a fuel cell and mounting it between the rear framerails where the spare was on the truck,.This one guy did it on this one website and he put a fuel door in the bottom of the bed, it looked real clean! If I find the link il send it your way. Just keep chipping away at it and it will be done before you kno it!

I didnt take any before I put it in, I just have ones of it installed. But it is pretty much a brand new factory harness fitted to how you need it.
