Default Differences in LB7, LBZ, LLY, & LMM

Is there a thread or can someone post up the pro/cons of each? Let's say somebody's looking to pick up a Dmax soon... wich would benefit them the most in what aspects?

go with the LBZ, not the lly or the lb7. different internals--pistons, rings, etc. the lmm i'm not sure of except for it has the emmissions internals.

What are the differences internal wise? Was the LBZ treated to a better piston & ring combo?

Yes, the LBZ was treated to a better piston-ring combo. Not sure about the LMM's, but they do have all of the emmission stuff on them!

Jordan there are just so many variables its not even funny. Give me an idea of what youre or they are looking to do with the truck, mod wise and what price range. LBZs have better performance out of the box but the pistons are prone to cracking at high hp, LMM and LBZ are the same longblock wise the differences are the emissions crap. There is a lot more but Im lazy

It's for me LOL... once I'm settled in the new house and the truck is finished I'm swithching to a Dmax for a DD. I need something to tow my (future) toys. Plus I need to up to a crew cab since there's five of us and a dog. I like the Suncoast trans' and I'll look into EFIlive for the diesel tuning needs. But I want the rig to haul some *** too... I have several friends that run Cummins' and they are freaking fast!

I have owned LB7, LLY, and LBZ. The LBZ was by far the most powerful, and my favorate. The LLY was the most gutless, and least favorate. The LB7 is right in the middle. I keep it around because it's paid for, and gets great milage.


LB7
The LB7's are knowen to get the best MPG out of all the Dmaxes. Main thing to worry about is the injectors they Will go bad at some point in time. They have a 200K mile/ 7Yr warrante but after that it is on you. Expect $4500.00 at the dealer. The fuel psi regulators tend to get sticky and cause a surging idle.

LLY
Bigest problem is they can tend to over heat when pushed to there max. Other than that they have minor problems like injector harness rub through, egr valve, and VVT can stick. LLy other than the heat issue, being gutless stock, and guzziling fuel they are fairly problem free.

LBZ
leaps and bounds ahead of the LLY, and LLY in performance stock form and with mild modds. Has a six speed Xmission that will take more power than the other two. LBZ has less lag, and runs smoother than LB7, and LLY's. Biggest problem with the LBZ is when getting into the bigger HP tunes they have been knowen to crack pistons, and have leaky Xmission cooler lines.

LMM
I don't know much about them but like said above very similar to the LBZ. Same long block, and Xmission, just a different turbo, DPF, and emissions. I have heard the LMM is king when DPF is removed. The LMM turbo is said to flow more air.
