I know a bit about the 6.5L turbo diesels. you have a question in mind?

 

I have a buddy with a 94 Chevy with a 6.5TD, Manual trans. He will be driving down the highway and all of sudden the truck will loose almost all power and get kinda loud ( Engine loud, not exhaust) And the check engine light starts flashing.. If he puts it in Neutral and shuts it off then restarts it then it goes away until the next time. What do you make of this? I dont know **** about the 6.5TD's

 

Does it start smoking a lot?

Engine loud, like knocking louder?

 

try a new computer box on the injection pump its a black box under the turbo diesel cover it syats standyn on it that might do the trick also put a new fuel filter in.

Had several of those replaced on my old 6.5. Fixed it everytime...for a while

 

As for the smoking part I am not sure, he said it has been nite time when he drives it so he hasnt noticed.. I asked him the same question. He did say it knocked louder though.
