Default 14 bolt Diff

Hey, I'm looking to finally get rid of the G80 in my truck. What would you guys recommend? Truck in sig, 14 bolt 10.5" full floater. I know the selection is limited, been searching on here for a while with not many answers.

Truck is Daily driven, used for contracting/landscaping work, I regularly haul 4k lbs in the bed or tow trailers. Don't want a locker, had a Detroit locker in my last truck, was awesome offroad but not what i'm looking for in this.

Thanks

Xtream 4x4 this weekend had a show all about the 14bolt this weekend. Check out the website and they had lockers to spools.
Here is a link to the episode. You will have to find the part he talks about lockers. The one was under $500 and replaced the spider gears.

Since he specified he has NO interest in a locker I don't think that is much use to him, lol.

Eaton makes a clutch pack limited slip that should fit the bill for you nicely.
It's part number 19610-010.

That Eaton part number is for 4.56 -up carriers. If you still have the 4.10's like listed in your sig you will need Eaton P/N 19689-010.

Feel free to shoot me a PM for a quote.

What is it about Eaton P/N 19689-010 that makes it outperform my stock posi? Mine is in need of service or replacement, too.
Is it a drop-in replacement, or is there a possibility that new shims will be needed to get the gears to mesh right again?

It actually works, lol. The Gov Lock only operates at low speeds ( up to 20 mph ) and requires 200 rpm differential to cause it to lock up. They don't fail in the explosive violent manner like the 10 bolt version does in the 14's but they still suck imo. GM likes the fact they don't operate at higher speeds giving the driver the confindence off an open diff on slippery surfaces. Locked usually means fishtails are easier to come by but I personally love that myself.... and I live in the land of ice and snow. It's all in driving style really.

You might not need new shims to keep the preload correct and line up the contact pattern with the backlash in spec..... or you may very well need to shim it. That goes for changing the carrier in any differential really. Pinion depth won't change so long as you aren't swapping gears at the same time.

And yes my bad on the number as Eaton has 2 listed and I copy pasted the wrong one.

Mine's a limited slip, not a Gov Lock. To rephrase my question: The only obvious difference between the Eaton limited slip and the one in my truck is that the Eaton uses coil springs instead of the weird "S" spring in the stocker. It seems like there must be a way to upgrade the stocker to be able to light up the tires going around a slow corner, like it would for a couple of times when I first installed my blower. If not, is it because of a lack of available performance parts, or is the design of the stocker that bad?

Okay........ Your code in your glove box has to be G86, not G80 to be not a Gov Lock originally. I have read about that with the 10.5" but never have seen one ever. All my 10.5" were Gov Lock garbage. They look like this:

The Eaton probably has stronger springs than whatever is in there, and is of course adjustable in the sense of spring pressure.

That said being your truck is a 2000 do you actually have a 10.5" rear diff or just the 9.5". Any GMT800 non "HD" 2500's had the 9.5" diff. The 2000 are oddballs as the actual HD trucks didn't debut in the new body style until 01. Apparently you could get an "HD" in 2000 and still get the 10.5" rear along with a 9200 lb GVW.....
