Default 4L60E trouble

I have a 99nbs 5.3L Z71 With the 4L60E I bought it used and it has always worked great. Even in the mud!!!! Anyway yesterday it (fell) into netraul. 1st fine 2nd fint Then at 3rd and 4th shift it went into netaul. I was wondering if anybody else had this problem and what it was. So today I pulled the transfercase and trany LOTS OF FUN! I noticed that on the trany + torque converter it said (remanufactured for GM) I thinks its wierd that a 1999 CHEVY truck would already be on its 3rd trany! So I did some research and found that GM puts remans. in there BRAND NEW VEHICLES. Has any one else heard of this I heard it from a few other people also. The only good thing is that the parts are only 100 dollars. Sorry this is so long but I had to vent.

Where did you find the info about them putting used tranny's in?? Sound like something I'd also like to look into, especially since my 1st one went out at 8,000 miles!

I think that maybe someone before you had it replaced under warr, I don't see GM, the worlds largest auto builder putting reconditioned parts into a $25K+ truck. I know that when their allison's fail the put remans in and motors are remans too. I would bet it failed for the previous owner, can you get ahold of them to see what they say?

Also, there is a 1800 number in your manual, call them tell them you need the history of it, they can usually provide it ( I know olds does).

You smoked your 3-4 clutch pack...like everyone else seems to. Get a 6 pack Blue Plate Special or 9 pack of Red Eagles and be off to the races.

Get a BIG trans cooler (no '99s had them from my understanding) and a TransGo shift kit and your tranny should live a lot longer then

My 99 has a factory tranny cooler. It is a little on the small side though.

That's the little wuss sized heat exchanger...keeps the trans from burning up and well...that's about it.

A tube and fin cooler is ~$50. The B&M ones are a bit more expensive ($80 I think) but apparently work a bit better.

I have about 124,000 miles on mine. I put a B&M shift kit in at about 70 or 80k. No problems to be had, even with the stock "heat exhanger"
