Yes sir it certainly is. I'm not certain how I personally feel about it as re-stocking it would mean a new recoil lug would be needed, but from what I've seen it hasn't hurt the accuracy nor the ruggedness of the new rifles.

went back to the range and finished off my box of Federal ammo. Shooting a 2" group at 100 yds. Switched over to Hornady Match Steel and was shooting a 1" group but 3" low. Adjusted the scope, and was right on target. Was even taking down water jugs at 150 yds with only 1/2 drop. I kinda like the Match Steel. Was only $38 for 50 rds.

Also thinking about painting the rifle in desert camo. Any ideas?

Hell man, that thing in desert camo would look really nice. Only questing is are you going to tiger stripe it, blotch pattern, or just blend brown green and tan subtly?

if you were closer, you could bring it by the shop and i could duracoat it for you. i do patterns as well, but if it has patterns and access. it costs a little more.

That looks awesome. Would like something like that, only a little more tan.

I plan to reload eventually. I know that I can't reload the Hornady Steel match cases but that ok for now.

Nice little field gun for sure. I have has 8 savage rifles over the last 8 years and love them. I have just become a bit of a bolt action snob I guess. I hunt with a Sako now and have fallen in love with everything thing about it except the damn price tag. The wife shoots a Tikka 22-250 and I love that little gun too. BoThe Sako shoots a bit better than any savage I have had, but with 2 times the price tag. If I had it to do all over again I would still have a savage just based on my pocket book.

On the subject of optics. I have used Leupold, Burris, Nikon, Swarski, and Zeiss...... Nikon being my favorite based on service, warranty, price, and function.

I know have 4 Nikon scoped guns and all of them have been super nice.

DPMS AR-10 I use a Monarch X 4-16x50 SF Mildot
45-70 Break Barrel (not fun to shoot LOL) I have a Nikon Slughunter 3-9 x40 BDC on it.
Sako 270 Monarch 4-16 x 50 SF BDC
Tikka 22-250 Monarch 6-24 X 50 SF Nikoplex

As you can see I have a tendency to over scope my guns LOL...
