ive got an old S&W .38 that i recieved form my grandfather and im having a hard time figuring out when it was made... can any of you folks help me out?
the only number i see on the gun is a serial number on the bottom of the grip, its 248xxx. its an old nickel plated 5" .38 S&W special FWIW...
thanks for any help!
well i just looked some more and there is two numbers, both the same, on the little arm that the cylinder attaches to and on the frame of the gun right below the barrel if those would help any

You can contact S&W directly and they can help you out. Also for 10 or 15 (thats me gussin) they will print up the history of and if it was ever sent back for service or anything.
I did that on one of my revolvers and it turned out to have a pretty cool story.
