Default makarov, star, helwan, etc...

anyone own any of these old guns? thoughts on them? I was looking at a beretta 92 or 96, and have seen the helwan copys online, but never held one. I was thinking a makarov cz82 or p64 would be a good C&C. I really like the beretta 92/96.. The star 1911 copys made in spain are supposed to be a great 9mm gun for cheap too. most of these are $150-$250 guns besides the beretta...

The stars are actually a really good/cool 9mm and .380 platform. Gonna get one for my gf as soon as I can turn up the spare cash. My buddy has a .380, had one years ago and loved both of em. Parts are said to be "scarce" but theres an aftermarket dude that repro's them out of like missouri or something.

Other than that can go wrong with the Beretta 92 if ur set on a 9mm.

9mm,40,45 doesn't matter for plinking and a car/home gun. I like them all. I was thinking about a police trade in beretta, as they are 1/2 price of a new one.

The helwan is real cheap, but I would rather put a little more into a beretta for a better gun.

I got a Beretta M9, must have put close to 1500 rds though it in the few years I have had it,bought it used from a shop in southern ohio, Not one issue yet, had a older 92FS New Orleans police trade in and had a trigger detent spring break, but lord knows how many rds and the history of that thing.

Save up and buy one thing you know is rock solid and will go bang when you pull the trigger.

whatever your preference is. I personally dont like the wanna be 10MM that the .40 is. i can drop someone just as easily with a 9mm as a .40. all about shot placement. Unless the person is doped up, you hit them once they arent going to keep trying in their attack on you, a plus is 9mm bigger mag size and a ton less muzzle flip

I was thinking more along the lines of a side arm while hog plunking mostly along with personal protection. Nothing wrong with a 9mm though, I agree.
