I love threads like this
IMO 6.0L isnt a troll he is just getting a little too excited. Im a firm believer in what I have thus I defended my position.
On buying your on software: Most people who order a mail order tune arent ready to go at it themselves tuning plus since I have a Nelson tune when I buy HPT shortly I will have him to help teach me. I can log and send him my logs then let HIM adjust them then look at what he adjusted and why and learn from that. Thus I can learn and at the same time not kill the 7K motor I have sitting in my truck

Wow very interesting thread, pick a tuner and go with it is all it comes down to. Everyone will have something bad or good to say about any tuner out there. I personally have the W4M, its fine in my book, I know several others who run Nelson and PCM4less, are theirs better? I dont know because everyones vehicle is different. I have heard horror stories about every major mail order tuners out there and good stories as well. From my experience Jesse has been great so I would stick with him, but thats my history using him. Cant say much about others but I have heard most have great service at least. I stuck with the $150 tune with the extra PCM, why, because I didnt think close to $500 was worth it, would rather buy my own tuning software for that and F it up myself instead of someone else doing it because they screwed up a table somewhere

You guys slay me....this has been an interesting read. Can't say it was too informative, but with all the differing opinions maybe someone somewhere can gather some info from this thread.
So here is my "opinion". In our Avalanche truck club, a lot of guys have went to Jesse for a mail order tune. Some have had good success and several have had issues, specifically high rpm starts, pinging even with 93 octane, and bad PCM's that cause erractic ses lights. The ones that have had good luck love the tune..the ones that don't, hate the tune... Simple as that.
The price Jesse charges is lower because he will not change certain parameters like AFR, and he will not tune a blown engine. He has turned several down in our club with blown engines.
I started with Allen and although I think Allen has his **** wired when it comes LS1/LS2/LS6 tunes, I would not consider myself a "groupie". I bought HP Tuners so I could tune myself. When you start investing the kind of money that I, and others, have invested in our trucks, a $500.00 tune from an experienced tuner is like buying insurance on your car. $500.00 is cheap when you have $10,000 to $20,000 worth of parts under your hood, and when you are at that level, Jesse is not to be found.... Allen on the other hand is.... Even though he has not had a hand in my tune for nearly six months, he is only a phone call or email away...
With all this said, each tuner has his own place in the market and both has decided what level of tuning they will give lifetime tunes on. Allen is more expensive because he does not limit you in how much power you can add. Jesse does. That is not a bad thing because a lot of guys will never build a radical ride and the Jesse tune will take them far... but when you start doubling your horsepower or install a serious power adder, it is time to step u to a "Big Boy" tune and you will want the Allen Nelson experience.
My two cents....Hold on a second while I put my flame suit back on.......
