Default What should I do?

I have been saving up for some more mods and was about to order some LTs, but I have been thinking maybe I should get HPT instead. I plan on adding plenty more to my truck, but it will take quite a while because of my budget. So, do you think it would be a good idea to go ahead and get HPT or do a couple other mods? I have no idea how to tune, but it seems like it should be pretty easy to pick up. It just seems like a big purchase that probably won't do much for me until I have the cash for more mods.

If I do get HPT, should will I need a wideband right away? Or can that wait?

I really like my wait4me tune, but I know there is some more I could get out of it by fine tunning it. Just looking to see if this will be something worthwhile to get for my truck the way it is or if I will have to wait for more mods to really get anything out of it.

Not to bash any mail order tuner, but your tune is probably alot further off then you think. Get HPT or EFilive they are both very reputible!! I use Efi, personally I like the setup much more, but theat JMO. You won't regret it, which ever one you choose. LT's are fun but without tuning software you will be spending more money in the long run just to get your truck running right because someone else will have to tune it for you. Or you will have the headache of sending your PCM back and forth to get it tuned just right. You don't need the wide band right now, but if you can afford it then you should buy it. It helps alot when tuning your WOT!!!!!

It sounds like being able to program myself will really help me out. I just don't know how far I am going to go with my truck yet so it is kinda hard to spend that money and not know if I will be using it that much. After reading a lot of posts it seems as if it is the way to go though. Now i'm starting to think EFI Live might be a better choice. I was only looking at HPT because it is less expensive. However, the custom OS's look very nice that are available with EFI commercial. So you think I would see a pretty good gain over my current tune right?

Yes I do!! But that is also JMO. I had a Mail order tune( I can't say who since I don't want to ruin credibility) but when I got my Efi live I scanned everything I could before making changes. I saw almost 20* of Knock Retard and my VE tables weren't even close to they are after I tuned it!!! The problem is the tuner is in another state so he doesn't know the exact climate here nor does he know the exact engine!! Each 5.3 differs slightly in some way shape or form!! Hell every motor is slightly different so it's hard to get it perfect without scanning the engine you're tuning!! Now if you have scanning software, then you can scan, send it to your tuner, and they can correct as many changes as possible!!! But again you have to rely on someone else to do it for you. There are many reasons to tune it yourself besides overall power!! Gas mileage, motor longevity, towing one day, racing the next....

Can you tell me any of the big differences of HPT and EFI. I have decided I will be getting software as my next purchase, but want to make sure I get the right one. I have seen people switching from HPT to EFI, but not many going the other way. This makes it seem like EFI might be the better choice and most people get HPT becuase of the price like I am thinking about. Is there certain things that one can do that the other can't? Or is it just a different enviornment? I guess ill try to search button on that one, but if you have any info it would be appreiciated.

I actually know nothing from personal experience about the HPT software!!! All I can tell you is that from what I hear...it can do pretty much the exact same things as EFi. I chose Efi for a few reasons...
1. Flashscan (allows you to monitor/scan your PCM without the need of the laptop)
2. I like the GUI much better
3. I heard about EFI first
4. I know that EFi has a recovery system that allows you to fix a PCM after it haas been corrupted (if it ever does corrupt in the middle of a file reflash)(not sure if HPT does this)
5. The licenses you buy go towards the purchase of the commercial version(not sure if HPT does this or not)
6. All upgrades and updates are free ( not sure if HPT does this)

But none the less, alot of guys use the HPT...I'm just not one of them I don't know of anybody switching from EFi to HPT though, and if you say you hear people switching from HPT to Efi that leads me to believe EFi could be better.

Why commercial??? That way too expensive...you should just buy the personal Scan and Tune it comes with licensing for to vehicles and you can retune either vehicle as many times as you like it should only be like 699.00 or something like that

I want to be able to run custom OS's and I thought only the commercial version would do that.

Custom OS for what exactly!?? You don't have any mods that you would need it for and besides that, there are guys with 1000HP machines using just the personal scan and tune. You learn how to make your own OS run better. Much better than spending the extra money IMHO.
