On my 03 Chevy. 4.8.
It started having an intermittent start problem.
Go to start. And excessive cranking before it lights off.
Hit the starter release the key. It keep cranking trying to start.
When it does this it starts up most of the time.
But there are se where I have to hit the key a 2nd time.
This is an intermittent problem. Had the truck several
Months never missed a beat.
Just over the last week or so.
Thought fuel. So I hit the key a couple of time every time. When it happens it still does it.
No check engine light yet either.

Rick, check the fuel pressure. I see it all the time. Fuel will not build up the first time but second prime and it start. Also check to see if pressure is bleeding off to fast after
you turn the engine off.
you turn the engine off.

im fitting a similar issue after putting in a walbro 255 for a friend. it did fine for a few weeks then at a random point after the truck warmed up it would do that. now its gotten to the point that almost every startup is that way. you can prime it all you want and the same thing, but if you turn it over for half a sec, come off the key, and try again... fires right up. i have yet to figure it out...

Now it's a idle issue from time to time. Almost stalls but stays running.
Think I'm gonna hook up a cheap fuel pressure gauge. Stick on the window and see if its steady.
Still no CES light. ???

Your FPR or your fuel pump could be leaking down. After the first start does it still have extended cranking? There is a little check ball in the FPR and fuel pump that when it leaks will let your rails run dry and drain back to the tank and cause this. Bad gas would also cause this too with no ses light.

Yes. It does it intermittently.
Exp. the other day. Cranked up drove to town. Started stumbling at the light. Like it wanted to die. But didn't. Push excelerator it rev'd up.
Keep driving. Next light same thing.
Then I stopped went into the store. Came out.
Maybe 10min.
Started to crank. Let off the key. It kept cranking for a few seconds.
But did not start.
Tried again. Same thing but then it started. Ran like crap for a second. Then all was clean.
This is my back up truck.
But now I guess I need a back up for the back up.
But no SES light. Even when it stumbles or won't start.
