Would this be the appropiate thread (<Tech Only Specific>) to discuss why we would turn on or off the Shift Lock with a new converter? Why do you turn yours off 1slowsilverado? Obviously more HP and cheaper converter, it will not like it, but a good quality converter can handle it. Does it help or hender? installing a higher stalled converter makes what difference in turning this off?
Depends what your using your truck for. Shift Lock is default in the pcm for trucks. Its more for towing mostly, Now if you have a Stall rated for towing go a head and leave it on, But keep in mind your TCC Apply speed will over ride the shift lock when not in tow/haul.. Not everyone knows how to tune a Stall and might be reading this as the bible. So I thought I would through it out there. I use my truck for track days mostly or to work if its raining. FWIW I dont lock my verter at all.

should the converter remain unlocked through a 1/4 mile pass? What would be a good mph for it to lock under wot? 100? 110?

I always "thought" it would be better to lock a converter ASAP. But I don't think that is true. From what I understand you would only lock the converter if you red line before the end of the 1/4 mile with it un locked.
Now my truck "Feels" faster when my ART CARR converter is locked, (when locked I would still see 400 rpm slip)
I have also heard that you want you shift to happen at peak HP rpm, and you want you rpms during the shift to drop to your peak TQ rpm. That is why I shift at 5200.
I also think it has to do with your set-up, Turbos like engine load...........
Like I said I'm not sure if any of this is true, so take it for what it is worth. Once my ideas are proven wrong I'll edit this post so others won't be miss-guided.

Locking the converter when racing will slow you down and cause you to lose TQ.

Is it better to go with a Converter then to a 6spd? I have a Joe gibbs 5.3 supercharged truck and want more out of it and I think the factory converter is hlding me back?
