Default Speedometer stuck at 70! Help

This is on an 04 EC Silverado Z71. The speedometer is stuck at 65-70 mph. It will not go down to 0 even when the truck is turned off. This happened with the cruise on and now it will not go back down. I have used efilive to confirm that the vehicle speed sensor is reading the correct speed but the needle will still not move. The problem seems to be in the cluster. Anyone else had this problem or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Josh

I thought I remember somebody having a similar problem (but it wasn't stuck at 70) and it was like a pin or something stuck in the cluster...

It could be your stepper motor in the cluster for the speedo. the one for my oil pressure went out and it behaved like that. The one in my dads tach also went out, but it would just read half the actual. They were both 04's. Its kinda a common problem.

The cluster needs to be replaced or sent off to be repaired. It happens all too often. You might try to take the cluster out and unplug it. Sometimes it will work for a little while.
