Removing OnStar, does it need ECM retuning?
#1
There's some weird bug with OnStar in my wife's 2002 Tahoe that will periodically stop it from starting. No power actually gets to the starter, I have lights, chimes and no dip in voltage with the key turned; if I dick with the Onstar buttons or it's fuse it will fire right up.
I did some digging and found a diagram for the VCIM and where all it's various piggies and plugs are, removing it doesn't seem hard but I don't want to brick the truck by removing it if there's some parameter in the ECM that expects to see it.
Thoughts?

You can remove Onstar without any issues. I'd disconnect the button panel and disconnect the cell module (unplug the 25 pin connector from right side) that is behind the gauge cluster. The OE radio may have issues if you pull the fuse that feeds Onstar, but if you have an aftermarket radio you can go ahead and pull it.
