My wife just got a windows surface with 128gb and windows 8 on it for a early birthday present. As of yet I have not loaded my new HP tuners pro to it. Is this a reliable stable machine that should be fine for programming or would I be better of on a tried and true dell or equivalent lap top with a larger screen for building histograms etch.

Find a cheap simple used laptop with an older version of windows. Dedicate it 100% to tuning and nothing else. It should have essentially three programs Internet browser and hptuners scanner and editor.
