Default Quick question, new to tuning

I ordered the HP Tuners VCM Suite, and as soon as I get it the first thing I would like to do is save the image of my PCM settings completely just the way they are now, because being new to this if I start messing around with things, reading these tutorials etc, I don't want to risk not being able to get my truck back to the way it was. It runs great now, just needs a little tweaking to get the most out of it, and I want to do a few mods and retune it each time.

So is it possible to flash back your PCM just the way it was before you ever messed with it? I would assume so. Something like a "save all" option in VCM Suite?

Will this work also if it's one of Allen Nelson's locked PCM's? I would like to save his files and use them as a base for my 06 PCM.

So if I completely screw my tuning up during my first few attempts at custom tuning, will I be able to simply reload the "last known good" tune and everything will go completely back to normal? All the fuel trims, spark settings etc?

Just a little apprehensive about my first attempt at tuning... I will be doing a lot of saving files

man he sent me an unlocked pcm today and he erased everything. i had to start from scratch. i was really anxious to see what he had changed and why, this would have been a great learning tool. im gona call him tomorow and see about this.

I doubt he will give you anything. Those guys probably protect that tune info pretty well. I think you will get better help over on the HPTuners board than trying to get that guy to give you a basic performance tune. The HPTuners guys seem to respond very fast on that board, and I have read posts where they helped users get their car tuned up. Although they make it clear they are not a tuning company, they are a software company. They seem to be very helpful.

yeah just make sure you save your stock file in a safe place

I usually save it on the laptop and at least my flash drive so i have it in more than one place.

yeah many tuners are protective of their work for one reason or another...you really cant fault them though they feed their families with that job.

I am not for sure but I doubt he will send you one with his tune in it unlocked, nothing wrong with it really,it is his work and he wants to keep it that way and to be honest I do not blame him.He has worked hard to get where he is.Thats probably the reason it is back to stock.

My stock file is saved on 2 desktop computers, 1 laptop, and my Webserver which get's backed up to dvd regularly... I am also going to copy it to my 20GB USB hard drive for my laptop so it will be there too. And burn it to a CD and store it in a safe... (lol just kidding...)
