question about gear selector on side of trans
#1
what is it's function? do i really need to plug it in if i do not have a pcm in the truck (running carb). i will be running a FAST/TCI transmission control unit...
so other than acting as a neutral safety switch to keep me from starting in drive, what does it do?

It tells the TCM which gear the transmission has been selected to and sends info to the column lights. In my experience the transmission will function normally if the switch is showing a different gear than the actual detent it's in. Does your harness not have a plug for the Neutral Safety Switch?

on my s10, it also tells the tail lights when you go into reverse...it is also has the components to keep the truck from starting when in the D or R position. i am planning to keep a few components to it.
