Default oil pressure?

I was drivig home from work an noticed that my oil pressure went down to 20psi at a stop an usually sits at 40. Well got back to highway speeds an was a the normal 45-50psi an then i get home an turn it off an when i turn it back on it has no oil pressure. Im not sure if a melling pump was installed back when i had the cam an stuff done say 40k ago. But just looking for some ideas on if it was just the oil pump going out. My cousin suggested it could be a spun main bearing as well an it wont start knocking right away. but just put yalls 2 sence in. Thanks

drain the oil and inspect it, post what ya find, could be a lifter making the noise, could be the pump going out, could be a main bearing ( trust me i know ) just spun the main thrust bearings on a new build and no knock!!

My lifter tap, ended up destroying one lifter, couple others didnt look good. And my cam was turned into a paper weight. The best of luck to you. Hopefully its just the by pass on the oil pump.

Could also be a bad stepper motor. Most of the time when its the oil pressure sending unit the gauge will be pegged at 80 with the key on but truck off.
