If you can catch it acting up look at the fan clutch with the engine idling. If it is just coasting and barely moving any air if you feel in front of the fan shroud then the fan clutch is bad. Anything from 99-04 we have had lots of problems with them in texas heat. And the symptoms are exactly as you describe, it is shutting off on the high pressure switch. The radiators are so efficient on these new trucks the head pressure on the A/C goes out of sight long before it will ever cause the engine to run warm.

Little update. I added a can of freon and no change. I later found out it was now overcharged.
Once again someone suggested the idle control sensor needed cleaning. My truck is dbw. Do i have one?

yes.its made in the tb.clean the inside of tb.you need to put the EXACT amount of freon in it.prolly holds 1.8lbs?carry it to someone thats got a recovery a/c machine.let them pull your freon out, pull vacuum then recharge to the right specs.shops around here doesn't charge but 45 or 50 to do so.also with the exact amount of freon in it your low side should be 35-45 and the high side no more than 250.if your low side is 60 or more at idle then that means your compressor is not pumping good at idle.that would cause it not to cool good at idle.if your high side is more than 250 then you have heating issues, like the fan not cooling the condensor down.heres a trick to try.when you truck is idling with a/c on take a water hose and spray the condensor down,if a/c gets cold then you have a bad fan clutch more than likely.

I'm having a similair issue in a way but my compressor is doing the opposite, mine will not disengage. I thought it was a cycling switch.. tried a new one and nothing changed.
I was thinkin it was a little low on freon... added a can just praying and nothing changed... I was just thinking it may be a little low b/c over the last year or 2 it has got to where it isnt cooling as well.
But when I put a can in I was seeing low side pressures WAY too high, in the 70-80psi range.
any ideas??
sorry to hijack the thread
