Newb Tuning TR224-112...Need advice???
#1
I've got a tr 224-112 cam on it's way from thunder racing. So I've never tuned a cammed truck before, but I have done quite a few stock internal tunes. What are the main things I need to adjust/change? I know how to tweak the VE table for afr, but what tables do I play with to get it to idle good with or without the a/c on? Also, are there any codes or etc. I need to turn on or off? What is the ideal afr for a cammed LQ9 6.0 with headers? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks!

first of all raise the idle from the stock 550-650 to around 700-750 iin both A/C on and A/C off in order for it to start finding it's idle alone... change the idle spark to around 23*, increase idle airflow by around 5%...
u might have to play around with the misfires dtcs as a low lsa like that will set off some P0300 codes...
if u have a wideband, i suggest nailing in the maf... i run pure maf and it seems to run perfect (well only coz my VE tables are in around 9 other tables)

P0300 for sure... did it in mine sporadically (and ive got a 4.8), i finally just turned it off. Mine idled fine without any tuning whatsoever, but i did have to mess with the RAF and stuff to get it to not die when i came to a stop. Should be alot more of a mild cam in your setup since u got the 6.0

the new PCMs don't have one VE table as of yet... we have to transfer numbers from 6 different tables into a convertor, play around with it, then transfer them back onto the file.. it's not as easy as setting up a VE AFR error histogram and copying pasting on the previous VE table...
Either way tuning the MAF alone with a WB, I have my LTFTs between +1/-1 and my STFTs between +2/-2 max... I guess the VE table is there for a fail safety if the MAF decides to take a dump

Well, I have plenty of time to read up on tuning now. I broke both arms, and will be in casts for 4-6 weeks!
And the cam kit came in from Thunder Racing today, so I get to stare at parts for a month!
