Default New cam tune

08 Sierra 5.3.

I am swapping out my cam hopefully this week or next weekend.

I have done some basic engine tuning and have done alot of trans stuff for my truck.

I dont have the slightest idea where to start after I swap out this cam for my new one. (TSP 224r. 224/224 .581/.581 112lsa)

I am using HP tuners.

Really hopeing for a base tune to start with or a general idea where to go with from my current tune.

Thanks

Got the cam in and truck is running decent. It wont start on its own though. I have to give it alittle bit of throttle for it to start. Any ideas of which parameter in HPtuners I need to focus in on to make it start on its own??

Thanks

I would start with moving Idle RPM to around 800, set the Min Idle to 100rpm less and increase idle ignition timing to like 20-22 instead of 18. Than report back with what it is, or isn't, doing and we can play with idle airflow's

Edit: I just read your response and yours trucks behavior in the HPT forum. You need to add a little in the Engine>Idle>Airflow>Startup>Startup Airflow. Add 15% for the intial, if more is needed increase in 5% increments

Ok. that worked for the idle start up issue.

I also have a random misfire on all cylinders showing on my tech 2 when the truck sits and idles. It does misfire everyonce in a great while but is running fine when the counters are going up. I have tried a crank relearn and that didnt help at all. could this be caused by the cam??

thanks for the help

Yes, cam lump at idle will make the PCM think it's misfiring.

Depending on how lumpy the cam idles and if you ever intend to install a performance stall torque converter you may just want to turn off/desensitize misfire tables all together
