If you truck is a 00, then you can only use use a PCM from a 99-02. 03+ PCM will not work.

Why not? Don't say its because the IAC drivers aren't in the newer PCM, because that isn't true since the used the PCM's in the vehicles that had 4.3's in them, that were not drive by wire. Some 2004 LS1's were drive by cable, as long long as he corrected the plugs and wiring to accommodate the newer PCM, why couldn't he use it? Since there is an OS for 2004 drive by cable?

Well IF you make sure all other parts of the harness are the same then maybe.. But why not just buy an 01-02? By the time you buy the new plugs, trace the wires, you could have bought a 01-02 pcm off e-bay or here for less money....

There is only 1 PCM (can't remember the service number off hand) That is 03+ that is used in all the drive by cable applications. The rest of the 03+ pcm's do not have the IAC drivers . For his application, it would just be easier for his friend to get the credits to be able to tune the PCM he has since that would be easier then trying to repin and reprogram a different PCM, just because you can tune that PCM.

Wouldn't the difference in OS cause it to not run right anyway? which would require a reflash regardless?

The 12586243 is the PCM that I normally see used in 2004 (I haven't run in to any 2003's) for the drive by cable applications, but the following service numbers 12576106, 12583560, 12583561 12586242, and 12589463 are all suppose to interchange with it, which means they all would have to have IAC drivers.
