Default Is my tune a joke?

I got my cam installed this past weekend, 220/220 .581/581 110+4 it's in a 2001 5.3 silverado that is pretty much stock other than that i dont have cata and i've been thru the tranny with the normal stuff. I already had a mailorder custom tune and was told that if i gave him the cam specs he could get it tuned right. Well i put the computer in monday and yes it stays idling and seems to run better except that it dies when i come to a stop sometimes and dies when it goes in reverse sometimes as well. It also will rev up to like 3000rpms and then come back down on its own and the check engine light came on today which honestly seemed to make it run better. I called him and he said i needed to turn up my idle screw just a tad, it is staying around 500rpms so i do think it should be higher and was told the revving was the truck trying to learn the tune. I know someone that will dynotune it but i really wanted to wait till i did a few more things that i know will have to be tuned for before i spend 400 buckson it. What should i do? Give it time? Send it back? I dont know crap about tuning

You're going to want your idle higher for sure, try the adjusted tune and see how that works for you

The idle should really be set in the PCM.
I had this problem and had to adjust my throttle cracker. Drove me nuts.

If he's telling you to turn the idle screw, run away as fast as you can. These engines are more than capable of running perfectly fine without doing this and using the PCM to tune.

Give it a chance to learn the idle, and if it's still doing it in a few days, then it needs the idle air turned up in the pcm.

Alright, i'll give it a couple days. It seems like it's gettin better then all the sudden it goes to **** then does alright again. Anyone know of any good tuners in the coastal south carolina area? I know of one guy but thats it and i dont have any experience with him other than he suggested a way bigger cam as a dd
